For TradeTrade Autographs With Other Collectors
Swap a piece you’re ready to part with for one you’ve been hunting for.
Trading has always been part of autograph collecting. On CollectorFish, a member can list an item “For Trade” in the Fish Market instead of setting a price. Other members propose a trade by describing what they’d offer, and the owner decides which proposal, if any, to accept.
Trades are arranged directly between the two collectors. Please read how it works below, including what CollectorFish does and doesn’t do for trades.
How trading works
- 1
List an item for trade
Create a listing and choose Trade. Like every listing, it’s reviewed by the CollectorFish team before it’s published. - 2
Collectors propose trades
Signed-in members choose Propose a trade on the listing and describe the piece or pieces they’d offer. - 3
Accept a proposal
The owner reviews proposals and accepts one. The listing then closes and other pending proposals are declined. - 4
Arrange the swap
Both collectors arrange the details, shipping and timing privately in Message in a Bottle.
What CollectorFish does and doesn’t do for trades
- Trade listings are reviewed before they’re published, like every listing.
- Trades aren’t paid through CollectorFish checkout. There is no escrow, and the automatic non-shipment refund applies to paid orders only, not to trades.
- CollectorFish doesn’t inspect, hold or authenticate traded items. Authentication details on a listing are stated by the member who listed it.
- Before you trade, exchange detailed photos, agree on how and when each side ships, and ship with tracking.

Authentication is an expert opinion about whether a signature is genuine. Here is how it works and what it can and can’t promise.
A certificate of authenticity is a statement that an autograph is genuine. Who made that statement is what matters.
Most autograph damage is slow and preventable. Good materials and a dark, stable place do most of the work.
Two signatures by the same person can sell for very different amounts. These are the reasons.
