Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 3, 2026

CollectorFish respects the privacy of its members and visitors. This Privacy Policy explains the types of information CollectorFish may collect, how that information is used, and the choices available to users.

1. Information We Collect

Depending on how you use CollectorFish, we may collect:

Account information

  • name or display name;
  • email address;
  • your first and last name and mailing address, which are kept private, are never shown on your public profile, and are shared only with the seller of an order you pay for (so they can ship it) and with CollectorFish administrators for support;
  • username (your angler handle);
  • profile information you choose to add, such as a photo, bio or location;
  • account identifiers; and
  • membership status.

Marketplace information

  • listings;
  • photographs;
  • asking prices and offers;
  • item descriptions;
  • authentication information supplied by sellers;
  • Wanted posts;
  • transaction information, such as orders, sale amounts and fees;
  • shipping carriers and tracking numbers, and other shipping details exchanged to complete an order; and
  • seller payout or onboarding status.

Communication information

  • messages sent through Message in a Bottle;
  • bug reports and feedback you send, including any screenshot you attach and basic page, browser, device and screen-size details;
  • support requests sent through the Contact Us form or by email;
  • “I Have One” responses to Wanted posts;
  • problem reports and dispute messages on orders, and listing reports;
  • Watch List preferences; and
  • other communications you choose to send through the service.

Payment information

Payments are processed by Stripe, a third-party payment provider.

CollectorFish does not receive or store full payment-card numbers or bank account numbers. CollectorFish keeps records such as Stripe customer, subscription, payment and payout identifiers, amounts and payment status so it can run memberships and marketplace orders.

Stripe may collect card details, bank information, billing information, identity-verification information and transaction information according to its own privacy policy.

Technical information

CollectorFish and its service providers may automatically receive information such as:

  • IP address;
  • browser type;
  • device information;
  • pages viewed;
  • referring pages;
  • approximate location derived from IP;
  • log information;
  • cookies or similar technologies; and
  • interactions with site features.

2. How We Use Information

CollectorFish may use information to:

  • create and manage accounts;
  • operate the marketplace;
  • process memberships and marketplace transactions;
  • connect buyers and sellers;
  • provide Wanted-post responses;
  • send Watch List alerts;
  • provide customer support;
  • prevent fraud, abuse and security problems;
  • improve site performance and usability;
  • understand how visitors use the site;
  • maintain records required for business or legal purposes; and
  • comply with applicable law.

3. Analytics

CollectorFish uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google, to understand how visitors use the site, such as which pages are viewed and whether key steps (for example creating an account, posting a Wanted request, creating a listing or completing a checkout) succeed.

When you visit CollectorFish, Google Analytics may collect:

  • the pages you view on CollectorFish (the page address without its query string, except campaign tags such as utm_source) and the page title;
  • the website that referred you, limited to that site’s address;
  • device, browser and operating-system information, screen size, language and approximate location (such as country or city) derived from your IP address; and
  • which of the actions listed above you completed, with general details such as the item category or listing type.

Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) containing a randomly generated identifier, so visits from the same browser can be recognised over time. This information is pseudonymous, not anonymous: it is linked to that identifier rather than to your name or account.

For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google Analytics runs without analytics cookies: Google receives the limited page and event information described above without a cookie identifier.

CollectorFish does not send Google Analytics your name, email address, username, account identifier, postal address, messages, listing or Wanted descriptions, autograph subject names or search terms. Google signals and ad-personalization features are turned off, and CollectorFish does not use Google Analytics data for advertising.

Google processes this information according to its own privacy practices, described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your visits by blocking cookies in your browser settings or by using Google’s browser opt-out add-on. CollectorFish works normally without analytics.

Our hosting provider keeps standard server and request logs, described in section 7.

4. Cookies and Similar Technologies

CollectorFish uses cookies and your browser’s local storage for:

  • signing you in and keeping your account session active;
  • security;
  • site functionality; and
  • analytics, through the Google Analytics cookies described in section 3.

CollectorFish does not use advertising cookies.

Some third-party services used by CollectorFish, such as Stripe on its checkout pages, may also place or read cookies according to their own policies.

5. Payment Processing

CollectorFish uses Stripe for payment processing, for Insider subscription billing, and for seller onboarding and payouts through Stripe Connect.

Payment, bank and identity information submitted directly to Stripe is handled according to Stripe’s privacy practices.

6. Email Delivery

CollectorFish uses Resend, a third-party email-delivery service, to send service-related messages such as Wanted responses, Watch List alerts, order and shipping notices, listing review results, Contact Us messages and account communications.

7. Hosting and Account Infrastructure

CollectorFish uses third-party infrastructure providers to host and operate the service:

  • Netlify hosts the website and runs its servers, and provides sign-in and accounts (Netlify Identity), the database, storage for uploaded photographs, and image delivery. Netlify keeps request logs that include IP addresses and browser information.
  • Google Fonts delivers the fonts used on the site, so your browser contacts Google’s servers, which receive your IP address and browser information.

8. Information Shared With Other Users

Certain information is intentionally shared as part of the service. For example:

  • public profile information, such as your display name, handle, photo, bio and location, is visible to other users and visitors;
  • marketplace listings, Wanted posts, Reef posts and comments are visible to visitors and members;
  • ratings and feedback from completed sales are shown on profiles;
  • sellers and buyers receive the order information needed to complete a purchase, such as the item, amount, carrier and tracking number;
  • messages you send are delivered to the member you send them to; and
  • “I Have One” responses to a Wanted post are delivered to the person who created that request. If that person posted without an account, your response is emailed to them, and if they reply to that email, your email addresses are shared with each other.

CollectorFish does not intentionally publish private email addresses simply because someone creates an account.

9. Service Providers

CollectorFish may share information with companies that help operate the service, such as providers of:

  • hosting;
  • authentication;
  • databases;
  • payment processing;
  • email delivery; and
  • technical infrastructure.

These providers receive information only as reasonably necessary to perform their services.

10. Legal and Safety Disclosures

CollectorFish may disclose information when reasonably necessary to:

  • comply with law or legal process;
  • respond to valid governmental requests;
  • investigate fraud or abuse;
  • protect the rights or safety of CollectorFish, its users or others; or
  • enforce site rules and agreements.

11. Business Transfers

If CollectorFish or substantially all of its assets are sold, merged, reorganized or transferred, user information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.

12. Data Retention

CollectorFish may retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain business and transaction records, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, comply with legal obligations and enforce agreements.

Different categories of information may be retained for different periods. For example, records of completed sales are kept so that orders, refunds and feedback can be reviewed later.

13. Security

CollectorFish uses reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect information.

However, no website, database or electronic transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Users should use strong passwords and protect access to their accounts.

14. Your Choices

Depending on the feature and applicable law, users may be able to:

  • update profile information in Edit profile;
  • change Watch List settings on the Watch List page;
  • unsubscribe from optional marketing email (CollectorFish does not currently send marketing email);
  • cancel an Insider membership on the Insider account page;
  • request assistance regarding their account, including questions about the information CollectorFish holds or requests to delete an account; and
  • contact CollectorFish regarding privacy questions.

15. Children

CollectorFish’s marketplace is intended for adults.

CollectorFish does not knowingly permit children under 13 to create accounts or knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If CollectorFish learns that personal information from a child under 13 was collected inappropriately, reasonable steps will be taken to delete it.

16. United States Service

CollectorFish is operated as a U.S.-based service unless the site expressly states otherwise.

Users accessing the service from other locations understand that their information may be processed in the United States.

17. Changes to This Policy

CollectorFish may update this Privacy Policy as the site and its services evolve.

The “Last updated” date will identify the latest version.
